Atlanta Hosts the Annual Georgia Civics Bee

The vibrant city of Atlanta recently became the stage for the annual Georgia Civics Bee, a significant event aimed at encouraging middle school students to delve into civics and actively contribute to their communities. Held on March 27, this initiative is now in its third successful year, with participation from over 80 students across Fulton County and surrounding areas.

Inspiring the Next Generation

This year's competition saw an impressive number of essay submissions, with the top 20 students chosen to compete in a live contest. The event featured rounds of civics questions and a dynamic Q&A session, allowing participants to showcase their understanding of government operations, community issues, and civic responsibilities.

Celebrating Young Leaders

The overall winner, a student from Atlanta's own Drew Charter School, walked away with a $500 prize and the opportunity to advance to the state-level competition. The panel of judges, including esteemed local educators and community leaders, was thoroughly impressed by the innovative solutions proposed by the students to tackle pressing community challenges.

Community Impact and Growth

Kara Lassiter, program director and advocate for youth engagement, expressed her pride in the growing enthusiasm among students. "The Georgia Civics Bee continues to thrive, proving that our young people are eager to engage, learn, and lead. This event is not just a competition; it's a movement toward building informed and active citizens," Lassiter remarked.

As the event gains momentum, it promises to be a cornerstone for fostering civic engagement among young Atlantans, supported by The Civic Trust and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
